This enlightening documentary follows the recovery of Michael Galinsky, an American filmmaker suffering from chronic TMS symptoms. It follows his journey as a patient of renowned physician Dr John Sarno. Although heavily centred around his life and his struggles, it brilliantly illustrates the typical life that a TMS sufferer might have and their rollercoaster journey towards recovery.
Sarno's story is incredibly inspiring but also bittersweet. Although I really enjoyed the footage of the man himself, it was also pretty heartbreaking to witness how he struggled with the ongoing rejection of his methods from his medical peers. TMS and the mind/body medicine approach are currently still not fully accepted by mainstream medicine, despite the fact that he personally successfully treated over ten thousand patients directly, plus millions more through his legacy and successors. At one point in the movie, he said he had never received a referral from any of the other practitioners in the NYU Clinic that he practised from for decades. Sadly, Dr Sarno passed away in 2017 shortly after this documentary was released.
A story told with humour and compassion, featuring interviews with Howard Stern, Larry David, Senators Bernie Sanders and Tom Harkin, and even a cameo by Nicole Sachs! This movie is a must-watch for anyone suffering from TMS symptoms.
