Medical Practitioner
Dr John Stracks is board certified in family medicine and integrative medicine and has spent his entire medical career focusing on integrative strategies for healing. Initially based at Northwestern Medical Centre in Chicago until 2017 when he opened his own practice focusing on mind-body medicine. Dr Stracks is an expert in the effect of emotions on physical symptoms, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, mental health and digestive disorders and his goal is to prescribe medication ONLY as the last resort and has been helping patients overcome chronic conditions for over a decade.
He is also the Medical Advisor for Curable, the mind-body App and hosts their webinar series 'Hope for Healing' interviewing other mind-body practitioners and TMS survivors. He regularly hosts in-person workshops, such as 'Freedom from Chronic Pain' hosted with Nicole Sachs LCSW - both recognised as national leaders in this field.
Previous to medical school he was a social worker, so finding a connection between the psychological and physical world made total sense to him, but like many others, he didn't initially believe that this was the cause of his suffering.
Like most other TMS practitioners Dr Stracks suffered from chronic symptoms himself. During a particularly stressful period of his life (getting ready for Med School and planning to get married) he faced a set of distressing symptoms that he couldn’t immediately solve. His symptoms included numbness and tingling in his hands and feet with some loss of mobility, convinced he has Multiple Sclerosis or Thoracic Outlet Syndrome he visited many hand surgeons and specialists to try to resolve his conditions.
What followed was a journey of discovery with alternative medicine and inward reflection where he learned how to take stock of the messages his body was yelling at him and gradually he discovered new ways to move on from the stressors that contributed to his painful conditions. With the help of Dr Sarno's book 'Healing Back Pain' and getting back to the physical activity he loved he had finally found the source of his cure. Dr Stracks then became compelled to help others with seemingly unsolvable chronic issues, using the same set of techniques that brought him to full recovery.
